  • Please join us for the 13th Annual TransOhio Trans & Ally Symposium, which will take place virtually Friday, September 17 - Sunday, September 19. The theme this year is Into the Unknown. 

Providers Day - Friday, September 17, 2021

Providers Day is specifically directed towards providers of the greater trans and nonbinary communities. Continuing education credits are offered for qualifying medical and legal professionals at no additional cost. Keynote speaker Dr. Kyl Myers will join us after lunch to share their perspective on gender creative parenting, as well as to give insight and spark meaningful dialog about how we can better care for our transgender youth here in Ohio and beyond.

Medical Track

Target Audience: Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, and other Medical Professionals interested in expanding their practical knowledge in caring for transgender and gender diverse patients. 

Objectives: 

  • Develop a foundational knowledge about gender diversity, including appropriate communication specific to transgender persons; identifying, and avoiding distressing features of the medical setting; understand barriers to and disparities within the healthcare setting. 
  • Understand, appreciate, and learn to provide high quality medical, social, and behavioral health services to transgender and gender diverse communities.
  • Become familiar with the social and financial resources that enable efficient and effective health care to transgender and gender diverse populations.
  • Develop working knowledge of the surgical options for transgender and gender diverse patients

Morning sessions will focus on non-surgical discussions, and afternoon sessions will focus on surgeries, outcomes, and management. Continuing medical education credits (CME) pending. 

Legal Track

Target Audience: Attorneys and Paralegals licensed in Ohio, Law Students, and other Legal Professionals interested in expanding their confidence and competency in advising and representing transgender and nonbinary clients. 

Objectives:

  • Develop a working understanding about gender diversity, including the difference between gender identity and sexual orientation, as well as up to date gender-inclusive vocabulary 
  • Understand and critically examine barriers to and disparities within the legal justice system
  • Gain practical knowledge about how to better represent transgender clients, ethically and thoroughly 
  • Reflect on the possible intersections of various personal identities; trauma-informed lethal practices 
  • Review recent changes in public policies, legislation, or laws that may impact the practice of law

Morning sessions will focus on how we can better serve our trans clients, and afternoon sessions will focus on procedural, legal, and legislative updates. Continuing legal education credits (CLE) pending.

General Symposium - Saturday, September 18, 2021

The General Symposium will feature keynote presenter, Kylar Broadus, the first out transgender person to testify in front of the U.S. Congress and a pioneer in the trans equality movement, as well as a variety of sessions, workshops, and breakout groups specifically geared towards transgender and nonbinary community members, friends, family, and allies.

  • The deadline for Proposals has closed, however late submissions will be accepted and reviewed in the order in which they are received. 

General Symposium - Sunday, September 19, 2021

Trans and nonbinary employees and job applicants face numerous roadblocks in accessing employment opportunities. Please join us for a Virtual Job Fair, where all Employers and Resources have been thoroughly vetted by us for you.

Restrictions

Select sessions offered during this year's TransOhio Trans & Ally Symposium may be closed to those outside of a specific community or interest, and those sessions will be labeled as such in the Program and Schedule. Schedule and sessions subject to change. 

Representatives of TransOhio will be monitoring the virtual sessions and chats to ensure this event is safe and welcoming. This event is open to the public; however, any person who violates TransOhio's terms may be removed from the session and/or Symposium with or without notice. No hate speech will be tolerated, no exceptions.
